About Maria Glowacz

Born in Poland before the fall of the Berlin Wall
Maria started her professional journey as a journalist but had to flee the country for political reasons a few years later. She came to Brussels and started a new
life here.

Prior to joining the European Commission in 2004 as a civil servant she worked as a lecturer in the Human Sciences Department at the University of Brussels (ULB).

Maria has always enjoyed teaching and developing her pedagogical and linguistic skills. She is
fluent in English, French and her native language, Polish. Her 20-year career in the European Commission spans a long stint in Human Resources and various operational Directorate Generals:
including DG REGIO (Regional Policy), DG HOME (Home Affairs) and DG COMP
(Competition).

Passionate about and dedicated to human resources Maria was a staff representative for many years
and continuous to provide support to European professionals and help them to achieve their professional aspirations. In this role, she gained extensive expertise in career guidance and preparation for the internal and external exams. In parallel, she became a certified mediator and facilitator of Clean Coaching in Paris.

Parallel to her professional life, Maria raised two children who are now successful professionals. She knows well the challenges of striking work life balance-is a topic close to her heart!

In addition to her professional activities Maria enjoys singing and writing.
